The tree falcon is a summer visitor from June to August where it occupies abandoned crow’s nests in tall old trees in extensive, well-structured landscapes up to forest edges and uses these as an ideal breeding site for its 2-3 eggs, which hatch after approx. 28 days and are cared for by their parents until they migrate to southern Africa in August.
As crows are increasingly building their nests near settlements, the tree falcon is finding it increasingly difficult to find suitable breeding sites in the wild
